Honoring Gabby Giffords
Have you heard? On April 24, EMILY’s List is honoring Gabby with our annual We are EMILY award, which recognizes women who have changed the face of political power and provided extraordinary leadership and inspiration to the EMILY’s List community and beyond.
As Congresswoman, Gabby was a powerful advocate for energy independence and, as the only member of Congress with an active-duty military spouse, a dedicated voice for military families on the Armed Services Committee.
Since her injury in January 2011, Gabby has courageously put one foot in front of the other, walking down the long road of recovery. This January, joined by close friends in Congress, she submitted her resignation from Congress, promising that she would one day return to public service.
Gabby will be returning to DC for the first time since her resignation to accept this award. You can be there to thank her.
Gabby is a dedicated public servant, warm and compassionate, brave and inspirational, as well as tough and unstoppable.
She is EMILY.
Her continual demonstration of strength, wisdom, perseverance and grace are only a few of the reasons why we honor her. Join us in congratulating and thanking Gabby for all she has done for her state, for her country and to inspire women and girls around the world. Leave her a message to congratulate her on our Facebook page or tweeting @emilyslist using the hashtag #congratsgabby. Tell us what you would like to say to Gabby to thank her.
