The Results are In – Claire McCaskill to face Todd Akin this November
The results are in for last night’s Missouri Senate primary. As Todd Akin starts his Tea Party victory lap, we cannot even begin to tell you how important this race is in keeping our Senate majority this November. Claire McCaskill has demonstrated time and again her commitment to the women and working families of Missouri. Since elected in 2006, she’s worked to protect small businesses, close the wage gap, and expand access to family planning and quality healthcare. And now, in this race, Claire is up against an anti-choice, Tea Party-backed extremist.
Wondering just how wrong Todd Akin is for Missouri? Here are the facts:
- Todd Akin is a founding member of the House Tea Party Caucus
- Todd Akin is a former board member for Missouri Right to Life and has a 0% Pro-Choice record from Planned Parenthood.
- He has shown strong support for the Paul Ryan budget which would end Medicare as we know it and would slash critical services and necessities for families and communities.
- He believes in the repeal of Social Security and wants to reduce the federal minimum wage.
Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List sums it up best: “Todd Akin’s victory is the result of an unprecedented level of support from outside groups who are launching vicious attacks against Senator McCaskill’s sterling record.”
We cannot let big money conservatives like Karl Rove and Crossroads GPS buy this election. Doubt the role they play makes a difference? Think again: just this morning, they launched a new ad campaign against Claire—not even 12-hours after polls closed!
Claire McCaskill has always been the candidate for women and working families—fighting on the front lines to end the GOP’s ridiculous, methodical War on Women. She needs our support and she needs it every step of the way.
It has never been more important to keep our Senate Majority. Contribute now to make sure Claire has all the support she needs to win this November.
